With the transition to FMAX earlier this year, ESI introduced the ability to open multiple accounts within a single proposal and send them together using one combined eSign envelope.

In some situations, multi-account envelopes have failed when sent to DocuSign because they exceeded the platform’s processing limits. Following the guidelines below will help ensure your documents are processed successfully.

At a Glance

  • Maximum combined eSign envelope: 190 MB
  • Maximum individual uploaded file: 18 MG
  • Maximum fillable fields (tabs): 3,000
  • Typical capacity: 2 client accounts per proposal

Complex cases with extensive documentation may require separate proposals.

Below are some ways you can check if your work items will be within these parameters.

Print Multi Account Opening eSign Best Practices Guide

Check the File Size of an Individual Document

If you’re manually uploading a document (such as an account statement or driver’s license), verify that the file size does not exceed 18 MB.

In Docupace:

  1. Select the document to open it in the document viewer.
  2. Click the PDF icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Once the PDF opens, select the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner and choose Document Properties.
  4. This will open the document properties. The file size will be displayed at the top of that properties window.

You can also check the file’s size before uploading to Docupace by viewing its properties in Windows, macOS, or on your mobile device.

Check the Total Envelope Size

To determine the total size of the documents that will be sent for signature. Finding the envelope size follows many of the same steps as individual file size.

  1. Select all documents in the work item using the checkbox at the top of the document list.
  2. Choose Combine and Print to generate a single PDF.
  3. When the combined PDF opens in a new browser tab, select the three-dot menu and choose document properties. Review the total file size.

Keep in mind that DocuSign signature tags are added to the envelope and increase the final size. As a best practice, ensure the combined PDF is under 190 MB before sending.

Fillable Field (“Tab”) Limits

Fillable fields – called tabs in DocuSign – include any field that you or your client can complete electronically, such as text boxes, signatures, initials, dates, and checkboxes.

Because tabs can be difficult to count manually, we’ve provided tab counts for several commonly used forms below.  If your case includes optional forms or additional documentation, use these counts to estimate whether your envelope will remain below the 3,000 limit.
